Greater Exeter CIC is pleased to announce a new initiative: an independent community journalism project for Exeter and beyond.
The project plans to adopt an agile, innovative local news business model that has emerged in recent years in response to changes in the structure, ownership, role and reach of existing print and digital media. These have eroded the capacity of existing local media to perform essential public service roles while also placing editorial independence at risk.
This model will support the delivery of good quality local investigative news reporting and analysis that provides accurate, relevant, timely information about who is deciding what on whose behalf and how the bill for these decisions will be paid. It will also represent the interests of communities and reflect their cultural life.
The project will be editorially and financially independent, producing and distributing content without political or commercial bias. The aim is to deliver investigative journalism and in-depth articles rooted in community interest with real relevance and impact while informing and empowering its audience.
The project will observe industry best-practice principles, be fully regulated, and will be enabled by volunteers and supporters who share its mission to strengthen civil society and help people participate more effectively in local democracy.
Please get in touch if you would like to find out more about the project or offer to help deliver the independent community journalism with public interest at its heart that Exeter needs.
